While more and more operators are turning to Android TV to deliver next-generation services to their subscribers, at the same time, many are also seeking to embrace OTT viewers by delivering engaging Apple TV services. Sweden’s Com Hem Group wanted to launch its new Apple TV service to complement the Com Hem TV Hub hybrid STB platform which went live in April 2018, and to increase its reach among consumers. The aim was for users of the new Com Hem Play TV app for Apple TV to enjoy a rich experience closely aligned with the design of the ground-breaking, multi-award-winning 3SS-developed Com Hem TV Hub offering for cable, terrestrial OTT and IPTV.

Apple TV by Com Hem

Com Hem’s new apple TV app went live in summer 2018, and is engaging Apple TV viewers with live TV, catch-up, start-over, VOD and transactional TV. The new app is very easy, responsive and highly intuitive to use. Com Hem’s new Apple TV service enables access to the majority of the functionality of the main Com Hem Tv Hub platform, and is set to be popular as an additional OTT option in the household or for use in the holiday homes of Sweden’s consumers.

Com Hemselected the 3READY Android TV™ Client with custom launcher to power its new Android TV UHD-4K Hybrid STB, the Com Hem TV Hub.

Com Hem and 3SS both won prestigious industry awards in September 2018. In the 2018 CSI Awards, Com Hem Tv Hub was named “Best TV user experience – Operator deployment”and 3SS’ 3READY Android TV custom launcher won “Best interactive TV technology or application”.

Com Hem TV Hub is the world’s first major Android N deployment based on Android TV Operator Tier providing a fully customized experience with integrated Google TV services. Separately branded Android TV UHD-4K user experiences were enabled for subscribers on Com Hem’s two technologically discrete and separately branded services, Com Hem Play and Boxer. Com Hem Play broadcasts via DVB-C (cable), IPTV and OTT with Boxer transmitting in DVB-T (terrestrial TV) and OTT.
