Com Hem Tv Hub
Com Hem deploys ground-breaking hybrid Android TV STB based on 3READY Operator Tier
Com Hem’s goal was to deliver a state-of-the-art Android-based TV offering to its Com Hem Play (DVB-C, IPTV and OTT) and Boxer (DVB-T and OTT) subscribers. 3SS was selected to drive the integration for Com Hem TV Hub, the world’s first major Android N deployment of Android TV Operator Tier, enhanced with 3READY custom launcher. “For Android TV expertise, no one else comes close to 3 Screen Solutions, so our choice was clear” commented Com Hem Group CTO Thomas Helbo.
The Com Hem Tv Hub
Sweden’s largest multichannel TV provider Com Hem operates two technically distinct separately branded networks, Com Hem Play and Boxer. The operator wanted to give its 1.4 million subscribing homes a whole new breed of viewing experience using Android TV Operator Tier. Both audience groups were to get a brand-specific product, with best-possible usability and discoverability, offering immersive viewing experiences. In a hotly contested tender, Com Hem selected 3SS to deliver the 3READY custom launcher. It also assigned 3SS as overall project development and integration leader to deliver Com Hem TV Hub, Com Hem’s UHD-4K Hybrid STB built on Android N. We delivered the project in strict compliance with SAFe (Scaled Agile Framework) the experience-based development framework designed to accelerate deployments. Regular workshops helped Com Hem engineers build closer relationships with technology partners, facilitating interactive information exchange and project update sessions ensured everyone was fully aware of status and schedule of deliverables. In a brand-new viewing experience, Com Hem banished the traditional TV Guide grid and channel listings, while redefining zapping. Live channel surfing is highly visual and intuitive. Super-smooth scrolling immediately shows what’s playing now, what is available from the past seven days, and enables impulse selection and instant start of catch-up content. Discoverability is enhanced via a revolutionary new Remote-Control concept that enables partner apps to be accessed directly via the handset. Even before commercial launch in April 2018, game-changing Com Hem TV Hub had won a prestigious Red Dot design award.
