Tele2 Tv Hub & Tv Hub Mini

With 17 million customers in nine countries, Tele2 is one of Europe’s fastest growing mobile telecom operators, and the largest TV operator in Sweden with over 4 million customers. Tele2 offers mobile services, fixed broadband and telephone, data network services, content services and global IoT solutions.  

Com Hem was a Swedish brand which supplied Triple Play services in Sweden that included cable television, broadband internet and fixed-line telephone. Tele2 and Com Hem merged in 2018, creating a leading integrated operator by combining an award-winning mobile network with the fastest national fixed network and the widest range of content in the market.

In 2017, Com Hem needed their new set-top-box (STB) to be hybrid for all their customer needs (hybrid DVB-C / T, IPTV and OTT). They chose the Android TV Operator Tier model, since Android offered all the features they needed and flexibility for customization. Com Hem selected 3SS to create this state-of-the-art solution as prime integrator. 3SS was appointed to support Com Hem Group as overall project development and integration leader to deliver Com Hem TV Hub, Com Hem’s Android TV-based UHD-4K Hybrid STB using the 3Ready Product Framework.

In 2022, Tele2 trusted 3SS once again to expand their offering to an OTT streaming dongle to complement the existing Tv Hub offer, the Tv Hub Mini.

Tv Hub was launched in 2018 as the first European Android TV Operator Tier deployment, offering a fully customized experience with integrated Google TV services. The project was completed in just one year, with the phased rollout of the STB being deployed to serve Com Hem Group's combined 1.4 million Swedish subscriber households. The TV Hub compiles more than 200 channels and 40,000 VOD assets, with separately branded Android TV UHD-4K user experiences available for subscribers on Com Hem's two technologically discrete and separately branded services, Com Hem Play and Boxer.

Complexity is reduced and discoverability is enhanced via a new Remote-Control concept with state-of-the-art design combined with a trailblazing new UI and EPG which says goodbye to the traditional TV Guide. The platform delivers a simple and truly intuitive experience as well as discovery of all content types including Live TV, Catch-up, SVOD, TVOD and content of partners including Netflix, SVT and TV4 under one umbrella.

In 2020, Tele2 upgraded the solution from Android N to Android P, optimizing the process through agile development principles, including SAFe. The TV Hub still exists with improved features like Voice Assistant and outstanding image quality. The platform delivers a simple and intuitive experience, as well as discovery of all content types under one umbrella. The TV Hub has received numerous awards, including the 2018 CSI Awards' "Best TV user experience - Operator deployment" and the 2019 Connies "Best User Experience / + Grand Prix" award.

In 2022, 3SS launched the "Tele2 Tv Hub Mini", a more affordable and portable device that allows users to upgrade their old TV set to the latest Tele2 experience, whether they want to watch linear channels or use streaming services like Netflix. The new Tv Hub Mini is an easy, cableless device that can be plugged into the HDMI port of their TV and simply connects via Wi-Fi.

Overall, the combination of innovations made possible by 3Ready and the many appealing features of the TV Hub are game-changers, enabling Tele2 to set a new benchmark in digital entertainment.
